Jaipur to Jawai: Distance, Route, Train and Cab Options for a Leopard Safari Trip

Jaipur is the easiest big-city starting point for a Jawai trip from the north. It is a long drive, but there is a direct train, and the arrival is straightforward once you pick the right station. Here is everything you need to plan the trip: the distance, the road route, every direct train, cab and bus options, and how to fit a Jawai leopard safari into your Rajasthan itinerary.
At Jawai Safari’s, we have run leopard safaris around Jawai Bandh since 2011. Many of our guests come from Jaipur, so these are the questions we hear most.
Jaipur to Jawai Distance
The Jaipur to Jawai distance depends on the route, the exact village you stay in, and the source you check. Published figures vary, so treat them as a range:
By road: about 330–400 km, depending on route and stay location
By rail (Jaipur Jn to Jawai Bandh station): about 356 km
Drive time: about 6.5–8 hours without long stops
Train time: about 5–6 hours on the faster direct trains
Please verify the final distance on Google Maps with your exact stay as the destination. Jawai is a group of villages (Bera, Sena, Maad and others) around Jawai Dam, so a few kilometres of difference is normal.
Best Way to Reach Jawai from Jaipur
Train is the easiest option for most travellers. It is comfortable, predictable, and you can sleep through the long stretch.
Cab is best for families and groups who want a door-to-door trip and flexible stops. The drive is long, so plan for a full travel day.
Bus is the budget option, but it usually means a change somewhere (often at Pali, Falna, Sumerpur or Beawar) and slower timings.
Flight is not practical. Jaipur has no direct flight to Jawai, and the nearest airports to Jawai are Jodhpur and Udaipur, both about 145–165 km away. Flying from Jaipur to Jodhpur or Udaipur and then taking a cab usually costs more time than the direct train.
Jaipur to Jawai by Train
The nearest main station is Jawai Bandh (JWB), about 15 km from the main safari villages. Mori Bera station is closer to Bera, about 4 km. Falna is a larger junction, about 32 km away, with more train choices.
Seven daily trains run from Jaipur Jn to Jawai Bandh. Timings below are from published schedules, so please confirm them on IRCTC before booking, since railways revise timetables.
12547 Aravalli Express (AGC–SBIB Superfast): departs 02:00, arrives 07:12 (about 5 h 12 m)
22547 Gwalior–SBIB Superfast: departs 02:00, arrives 07:12 (about 5 h 12 m)
19032 Yoga Express: departs 03:35, arrives 09:34 (about 6 h)
19412 DLPC–GNC Express: departs 04:30, arrives 10:05 (about 5 h 35 m)
14701 Aravali Express: departs 09:25, arrives 15:37 (about 6 h 12 m)
09426 Haridwar–SBIB Special: departs 11:30, arrives 17:13 (about 5 h 43 m)
20952 Jaipur–Okha Superfast: departs 17:40, arrives 22:58 (about 5 h 18 m)
Which one should you pick?
For a same-day morning safari: take the 02:00 train, which reaches Jawai Bandh around 07:12. You will need a stay that lets you freshen up, then head out. Tell your hotel about the early arrival in advance.
For a relaxed day-time journey: the 09:25 train arrives mid-afternoon, which suits a late check-in and an evening at the lodge.
Avoid the 17:40 train unless you are happy to arrive close to 11 pm in a rural area. Pre-arrange your pickup.
From the station, a local cab or your hotel’s pickup takes you to your stay. See our pickup and drop details for what we can arrange. [CONFIRM: pickup from Jawai Bandh, Mori Bera and Falna stations before publishing.]
Jaipur to Jawai by Road
Most drivers go via the national highways heading south-west through Ajmer and Beawar, then towards Pali district and the Jawai villages. Exact road choices vary with where you stay, so let navigation guide the final stretch.
Expect: a mostly highway drive for the first two thirds, then smaller roads into Jawai
Plan for: a 6.5–8 hour journey including a tea break
Fuel and snacks: stock up before the final stretch, as options thin out near the villages
Night driving: avoid it for the last stretch, as animals and unlit roads are common
A Jaipur to Jawai cab is usually a one-way or round-trip taxi booking. Rates vary by season, vehicle and route, so get a quote with the exact pickup and drop points in writing. If you are combining the safari with Udaipur or Jodhpur afterwards, a one-way drop saves backtracking.
Jaipur to Jawai by Bus
Direct buses to Jawai itself are rare. The usual pattern is a bus from Jaipur towards Pali, Falna, Sumerpur or Beawar, then a local cab or shared transport onwards. It works for budget travellers with flexible time, but it is slower and less predictable than the train. Check current timings at the bus stand or an online booking site, as services change.
Jaipur to Jawai by Air
There is no airport at Jawai. The two realistic options are:
Jodhpur Airport: about 147–165 km from Jawai
Udaipur Airport (Dabok): about 145–165 km from Jawai
If you are already flying into Rajasthan from far away, either airport works, followed by a cab. If you are in Jaipur already, the train is the simpler choice. Read our Udaipur to Jawai route post for the Udaipur side.
Which Is Better: Train, Cab or Bus?
Choose train if you want the lowest stress, are travelling solo or as a couple, or want to rest on the way.
Choose cab if you are a family or a group of four or more, carry heavy camera gear, or want stops along the way.
Choose bus if budget matters more than time, and you are comfortable with a change.
Sample Plan: Jaipur to Jawai in 3 Days
Day 1: Jaipur to Jawai. Take the 09:25 train or a morning cab. Arrive by afternoon, check in, and settle in with an evening walk around the granite hills.
Day 2: Safari day. Start with a sunrise leopard safari around the granite hills and the Rabari villages, where wild leopards live alongside people. After a lunch break, you can add a birding safari around Jawai Dam. Our guide to things to do in Jawai and Bera lists more for the afternoon.
Day 3: Return or onward. Take a morning train or cab back to Jaipur, or continue to Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh. See places to visit near Jawai.
