Delhi to Jawai: Distance, Train, Flight and Road Options for a Leopard Safari Trip

Delhi is one of the biggest starting points for Jawai trips, and it is also the longest of the common routes. The good news is that you have three workable ways to do it: an overnight train, a flight to Udaipur followed by a cab, or a long road trip. Here is the distance, the real options for each, and how to fit a Jawai leopard safari into a Rajasthan itinerary.
At Jawai Safari’s, we have run leopard safaris around Jawai Bandh since 2011, and many guests arrive from Delhi. These are the questions we hear most.
Delhi to Jawai Distance
The Delhi to Jawai distance is about 640–715 km by road. Published figures differ depending on the route and on which Jawai village you are going to, so treat it as a range:
By road: about 640–715 km
By rail (New Delhi to Falna): about 650 km on the Rajdhani route
By air: about 545 km flight distance from Delhi to Udaipur, then about 145–165 km by road to Jawai
Jawai is a cluster of villages (Bera, Sena, Maad and others) around Jawai Dam, so please check the final distance on Google Maps with your exact stay as the destination.
How to Reach Jawai from Delhi
There is no airport or direct Delhi–Jawai train terminus, so every option has a final road leg. The three realistic ways are:
Train: best value, and the overnight schedule means you don’t lose a day.
Flight plus cab: best when time matters. About 4 to 5 hours door to door.
Road: best for families and groups who want flexibility, but it is a very long day.
Delhi to Jawai by Train
The nearest stations to Jawai are Mori Bera (about 4 km from Bera), Jawai Bandh / Sumerpur Jawai Bandh (about 14–16 km) and Falna (about 32 km). Falna is the larger junction and has the most train choices from Delhi.
Delhi to Falna by Rajdhani (12958 Swarna Jayanti Rajdhani).
Departs New Delhi at about 19:55, arrives Falna at about 03:48 the next day (about 8 hours)
Runs daily, and also stops at Delhi Cantt, Gurgaon, Jaipur and Ajmer
It is fast, but the 03:48 arrival is very early. Tell your stay in advance, and arrange a cab, since public transport at that hour is limited.
Delhi to Jawai Bandh by Yoga Express (19032).
Departs Delhi at about 22:25, reaches Sumerpur Jawai Bandh around 09:34 the next day (about 11 hours)
Also stops at Gurgaon and Jaipur
This is the more comfortable arrival time, since you reach in the morning, close to the station you want. It is slower, but it avoids a 4 am arrival.
Timings come from third-party schedule sites, so please confirm them on IRCTC or NTES before booking. Railways revise timetables, and tickets can also fill up weeks ahead.
Which train should you pick?
Want to save daytime and don’t mind a very early arrival: Rajdhani to Falna.
Want a sensible morning arrival at Jawai Bandh: Yoga Express.
See our pickup and drop details for what we can arrange. [CONFIRM: pickup from Falna, Jawai Bandh and Mori Bera stations before publishing.]
Delhi to Jawai by Flight
The fastest option is a direct flight from Delhi to Udaipur (UDR), followed by a cab to Jawai.
Flight time: about 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes
Airlines: IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express operate this route, with several flights a day
Udaipur airport to Jawai: about 145–165 km by road, roughly 3 to 3.5 hours by cab
Door to door: about 4 to 5 hours in total
Another option is flying Delhi to Jodhpur (JDH) and taking a cab, since Jodhpur is also about 147–165 km from Jawai. For the Udaipur side in detail, see our Udaipur to Jawai route post.
Fares change daily and by season, so book early for the winter months. Check current schedules on the airline sites, since timings and frequencies change.
Delhi to Jawai by Road
Most drivers go from Delhi through Jaipur, then Ajmer and Beawar, and on towards Pali district and the Jawai villages. Published driving times run from about 9 hours on a good day to 12 hours with traffic and stops, so plan for a full day.
Distance: about 640–715 km
Realistic time: 10–12 hours including breaks
Best for: families and groups of four or more, or anyone carrying heavy camera gear
Tip: start early, avoid driving the last stretch in the dark, and fuel up before the smaller roads
A Delhi to Jawai cab is usually a one-way or round-trip booking. Get the quote in writing, with the exact pickup and drop points. If you are continuing to Udaipur or Jodhpur afterwards, a one-way drop saves backtracking.
Delhi to Jawai by Bus
There is no direct Delhi–Jawai bus. The usual pattern is a bus from Delhi to Jaipur or Pali, then onwards by another bus or a local cab to Jawai. It is the cheapest option, but it takes 14–15 hours and needs a change, so we only recommend it to travellers with flexible time.
Which Is Better: Train, Flight or Road?
Choose the train if you want good value and an overnight journey that saves a hotel night.
Choose flight plus cab if you have 2 days and want the most time at Jawai.
Choose road if you are a family or group who want flexibility and a private vehicle.
Choose the bus only if budget matters far more than time.
Sample Plan: Delhi to Jawai in 3 Days
Day 1: Delhi to Jawai. Fly to Udaipur in the morning and take a cab, arriving by mid-afternoon. Check in and rest, then take an evening walk around the granite hills.
Day 2: Safari day. Start with a sunrise leopard safari around the granite hills and the Rabari villages, where wild leopards live alongside people. After a lunch break, add a birding safari at Jawai Dam. Our post on things to do in Jawai and Bera lists more for the afternoon.
Day 3: Return or onward. Cab back to Udaipur for a midday flight, or continue to Ranakpur and Kumbhalgarh. See places to visit near Jawai.
If you take the overnight train, you can start Day 2 with the safari and skip the travel day entirely. Two nights is the minimum we suggest, and three gives you better chances of good sightings.
Coming from Mumbai? The options are similar: fly to Udaipur or Jodhpur and take a cab, or take a train towards Falna or Abu Road with a change. Check current schedules before booking.
