Ahmedabad to Jawai: Distance, Route, Train, Cab & Weekend Trip Tips (2026)

If you’re planning a trip from Ahmedabad to Jawai, you’re on one of the easiest routes to Rajasthan’s leopard country. Jawai sits in Pali district beyond Abu Road, with a direct highway and daily trains from Ahmedabad Junction, so it works well as a weekend trip from Gujarat. At Jawai Safari’s, we’ve run safaris here since 2011, and many guests make the Ahmedabad to Jawai journey for a Saturday and Sunday of leopard safaris. Here is the distance, the route, your train, cab, bus and air options, and a sample weekend plan.

Ahmedabad to Jawai Distance and Travel Time

  • Distance by road: roughly 260–310 km, depending on your route and which side of Jawai you’re staying (Bera, Sena or Jawai Bandh)

  • Drive time: about 5.5 to 6.5 hours

  • By train: about 4 to 5.5 hours to Jawai Bandh station

  • Nearest railway stations: Jawai Bandh (JWB), Mori Bera (MOI) and Falna (FA)

  • Nearest airport: Udaipur (UDR), roughly 150–165 km from Jawai

Maps and websites quote different distances for Ahmedabad to Jawai because of the route choice and where you start in the city. The drive time is the more useful number for planning.

Ahmedabad to Jawai by Road: Route and Drive Time

Jawai from Ahmedabad is mostly a highway drive. The usual route runs Ahmedabad → Palanpur → Abu Road → Pindwara → Jawai, largely on four-lane highway. An alternative runs Ahmedabad → Himatnagar → Idar → Ambaji → Abu Road → Pindwara → Jawai Bandh, which is a little slower but passes the Ambaji temple. Your maps app will pick the fastest option on the day.

A few tips for the drive:

  • Leave early. Setting off by 6:00 to 6:30 AM avoids Ahmedabad city traffic and gets you to Jawai by early afternoon.

  • Plan a break around Palanpur or Abu Road for fuel, breakfast and a stretch.

  • Finish in daylight. The last stretch from the highway into the safari zones uses narrower village roads that are easier to find before dark.

  • Add a stop if you like. Ambaji and Mount Abu are both close to the route.

Ahmedabad to Jawai by Train

Jawai Bandh station has direct trains from Ahmedabad Junction, with around ten or more services in total. Journey times run from about 4 to 5.5 hours. Three often-listed examples:

  • Aravali Express (14702): leaves Ahmedabad around 4:35 AM and reaches Jawai Bandh around 10:15 AM

  • Ranakpur Express (14708): leaves around 9:55 PM and arrives around 3:15 AM

  • Suryanagari Express (12480): leaves around 8:35 PM and arrives around 1:15 AM

Fares run from roughly ₹200 in sleeper class to about ₹1,200 in First AC. Timings, fares and days of operation change, so check them on IRCTC before you book.

Watch the arrival time. Several trains reach Jawai Bandh between midnight and 4:00 AM. If you’re on one of those, arrange your stay and your pickup before you travel.

Which station? Mori Bera is closest to the Bera safari area, about 4 km away. Jawai Bandh is about 15 km away, and Falna is about 32 km away but has the widest choice of trains. These are approximate and depend on where you stay. From any of them, you’ll need a taxi for the last stretch.

Ahmedabad to Jawai by Cab or Taxi

A cab is the most flexible way to do Ahmedabad to Jawai, especially for families and groups with luggage. You can book one-way or round-trip, and you can stop where you like on the way. Fares depend on the season, the vehicle and whether you want the driver to stay with you, so confirm the total, including tolls and driver charges, before you book. Self-drive is also straightforward on this highway.

[CONFIRM: add one line here if you arrange cabs or pickup, for example: “We can arrange pickup and drop for you. See our pickup and drop details.” Delete this if you don’t offer it from Ahmedabad.]

Ahmedabad to Jawai by Bus

Buses run on this highway toward Abu Road and Pindwara. One listing shows a direct Ahmedabad to Pindwara service taking about 5 hours 45 minutes. You’d still need a local taxi for the final stretch to Jawai, so a bus mainly suits solo and budget travelers. Check current operators and timings, which change often.

Ahmedabad to Jawai by Air

Jawai has no airport of its own, and for travelers from Ahmedabad, flying rarely helps. Udaipur Airport is the closest to Jawai, and it takes another 3 to 3.5 hours by road from there, so the total journey is no shorter than going direct. A flight only makes sense if you’re coming from somewhere else and landing in Udaipur. If you land in Ahmedabad from another city or abroad, the simplest way on is a train from Ahmedabad Junction or a cab. For the Udaipur route, see our post on Udaipur to Jawai.
